The coastline is dotted with small towns that border the sea, where the colors and vibrancy of that predominate, affecting not only the soul of the people, but certainly also the architecture and colors of houses.

The variety of fauna and flora housed in these areas has meant that it has established the Natural Park of Monte di Portofino, which includes the promontory of the town on both sides, one overlooking the Gulf of Tigullio and the other on the Paradise, and it was established the Marine Protected Area of Portofino.
This includes that stretch of sea off the headland, where the sea floor, natural continuation of the same, are characterized by steep parapets and inhabited by a diverse range of species, the observation of which has ensured the emergence of numerous places for diving.
The beauty of the coast has attracted many filmmakers over the years that have followed, including mention Mike Newell in 1992, Michelangelo Antonioni and Wim Wenders in 1995.
To underline how much fame outside of Italy we say that to enjoy a small Portofino has been recreated in the U.S. at Portofino Bay Resort.
It has hosted many famous people among whom certainly remember Friedrich Nietzsche, Guglielmo Marconi, Emanuel Franco Solinas (Sardinian painter and poet who spent many summers in Portofino) and not least Guy de Maupassant, who described it as a small village that grows as an arc of the moon around this calm basin.
Among the festivals and celebrations do not miss what is held in Recco September 8, known as the festival of fire.
In Camogli on the second Sunday of May, the Sagra del Pesce, and Santa Margherita Ligure each first weekend the Exhibit, along with a copious amount of concerts and cultural events that take place during the summer.

Trivia: according to Pliny the Elder, the original name of the village was Delphini Portus, perhaps for the very presence of these animals in the Tigullio Gulf.
